Toxic Element Accumulation – the “hidden” danger posed by toxic elements!
Toxic elements can pose a variety of health effects. However, toxic element accumulation (or a buildup) poses the hidden danger of toxic elements.
The technical term is bioaccumulation that simply describes the process in which toxic elements, toxic chemicals, industrial waste, and so on gradually accumulate (or build up) in living tissue.
The timeframe for bioaccumulation may range from years to decades.
Toxic element exposures come from many sources and there are several avenues to enter the human body. Sources of toxic elements could be considered a rather exhaustive list due to the plethora of everyday products, medical, dental, household products, foodstuff, and on and on.
However, if the toxic exposure is through the digestive system, there are normally one of two possibilities:
- If your body is properly nourished, your digestive system functions efficiently to properly digest the foods and receive the nutrients. This allows sufficient levels of protective nutrients required to reduce or eliminate the potential of absorption of a particular toxin. As such, you reduce the potential for absorption and thus accumulation and adverse effects.
- If your body does not possess sufficient levels of protective nutrients, toxic element accumulation begins by absorption in the digestive system and elimination is impaired. Once in the bloodstream, the body tries to excrete the toxins first then will naturally sequester the remaining toxins into storage sites (brain, kidneys, liver, bone, etc.) throughout the mind and body. This is bioaccumulation.
Due to the extreme competition for absorption in the digestive system, protective nutrients are specific nutrients known to be naturally antagonistic toward specific toxic elements that ultimately interferes with toxic absorption. Protective nutrients include a variety of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
Why don’t I recognize toxic element accumulation?
Toxic element accumulation normally goes undetected because each day-to-day exposure is so minute (microscopic) it does not cause any immediate symptoms. This is the primary reason (“the why”) you probably don’t give toxic elements much thought.
Let’s see how this may work. You may have a couple dental amalgams continually releasing mercury vapors, you enjoy a variety of foods with a variety of toxins (pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, mercury containing seafood, and so on), and you may consume an occasional aluminum-containing antacid.
This is just a simple example and only one of myriad scenarios for your potential for constant toxic element (all toxins) exposures.
As you may realize by now, constant toxic element exposures, regardless how minimal each exposure may be, may easily accumulate over time.
How many toxic elements are “stored” inside you?
This is commonly referred to as a body load or bioaccumulation. Unfortunately, there is not any test or lab analysis that can reveal your total accumulation of toxic elements. As such, don’t let this widely promoted term (body load) fool you because the best we can do with current technology is monitor ongoing exposures and/or the elimination of toxic elements (detoxing) on subsequent analyses.
However, the best we can do today is called a challenge test. Keep in mind, this DOES NOT reveal body load or total bioaccumulation. The chelating agent does move a certain amount of toxic elements mostly from the kidneys or liver because they are known sites of accumulation. However, removing toxic elements from throughout the remainder of the body is not likely possible.
“Urine mobilization test,” “challenge test,” and “provoked urine test” are all terms used to describe the administration of a chelating agent to a person prior to collection of their urine to test for metals. There is no standard, validated challenge test.

Keep in mind; toxic elements are stored in many different tissues (brain, kidneys, liver, bone, etc.) throughout the mind and body. As such, without performing a “biopsy” on every tissue (including the brain) it is not possible to “know” which toxic elements or how much “buildup” has occurred over the years. Hence, a body load is not possible.
Our results provide empiric support that PUT is an inaccurate predictor of a diagnosis of heavy metal poisoning by a board-certified medical toxicologist. Given the inability to properly interpret PUT results along with the increased cost burden and risk of false positives, PUT should not be performed.

How do I detox hidden toxic elements?
As you know, numerous detox programs are widely promoted that include IV chelation therapy, juicing, massage, footbaths, saunas, supplements, and so on. Many of these programs are very helpful depending on your detox goals.
However, as seen in Detox the Body, targeted nutrition is the most effective means to remove toxins that are deeply stored in the tissues throughout the mind and body. At the same time, targeted nutrition provides the “protective nutrients” that are the most powerful for the elimination of toxic elements upon exposure.
